David J. Murphy joined Aceto, Bonner & Cole, PC in 2018, after working as an associate attorney at a Boston area law firm for the past four years. Dave has also worked as a sole practitioner and health care lobbyist.  Dave served for five years as a legislative director within the Executive Office of Health and Human Services in then-Governor Deval Patrick’s administration.  Dave also served for five years as general counsel to two State Senators, where he drafted the Massachusetts Anti-Human Trafficking Act.  Dave worked at several Boston law firms where he focused on business litigation and represented clients, including fortune 500 companies.

Dave represents clients in civil and criminal litigation, with a focus on business litigation.  He works with individuals, partnerships and companies to establish business and non-profit entities, to provide counsel and to negotiate business deals.  Dave has considerable experience with partnership, corporate and LLC disputes, resolving cases through negotiations, mediation, arbitration and trial in the Massachusetts state and federal courts.

Dave represented a local biotechnology company and its founding member in a lawsuit brought in Federal District Court by a Chinese biotechnology company.  Dave recently settled an employment dispute and a legal malpractice case in his clients’ favor, and he has successfully litigated and negotiated a number of matters for clients.  Dave is committed to providing clients with outstanding representation, to assessing worst case scenarios and to protecting our clients’ interests.

After graduating from Georgetown University Law Center, Dave was a law clerk to the justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court, where he worked for judges rotating through Middlesex, Suffolk and Norfolk counties.  Dave drafted numerous opinions in civil and criminal cases and worked with the justices on all aspects of trials, hearings and motions.

While attending law school, Dave represented clients through the Georgetown Criminal Justice Clinic.  Dave clerked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, in the Homicide Unit, in Washington, D.C., under the direction of Robert S. Mueller, III.  Dave also clerked for the D.C. Court of Appeals.

Prior to law school, Dave served in the U.S. Department of Justice where he worked on implementation of the Brady Act and portions of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994.  Dave also served as a legislative assistant to the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy on Capitol Hill, where he worked on criminal justice policy, the 1994 Crime Bill and drafted the law making art theft a federal crime, in response to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist.  Dave started his career in New York City where he worked for the late Governor Mario M. Cuomo on criminal justice policy.

Dave served on the Skidmore College Board of Trustees and the Natick School Committee, where he was elected to three terms.  Dave currently resides in Newton, MA and has two teenage daughters.
